Wood – a natural material

The raw material wood is the longest known construction material in the history of mankind. Till today it has not lost its outstanding position and relevance in our life. This is due on the one hand to its large availability as a re-growing raw material and its excellent processibility, in addition wood fascinates us with its originality and naturalness. Whether in the house as furniture, floor or panelling or in the garden as garden house, pavilion, fence or flower-box – wood always radiates natural warmth, security and reliability.
Wood is a natural material and therefore exposed, especially in the garden, to various wood-destroying influences. In particular for the protection against fungi and insects our timber is treated with chemical agents in a pressure process. You can recognize this by the greenish tinge. It is thus provided with a long-term protection for use in areas above the ground. The durability of timber set in the ground is also much dependent on the type, the humidity and the temperature of the soil, on the contact with other organic material (such as bark mulch) as well as on the observance of processing instructions. Here you should take advantage especially of the possibilities of constructive wood protection (i.e. technical possibilities of avoiding direct contact of the wood with the soil, e.g. as on page 61).
While chemical impregnation is absolutely necessary for pine and spruce wood, it can be dispensed with in the case of larch wood, due to its natural protection by resins. That is why we offer all products also made of larch.

Wood quality and maintenance

The quality of our products is our uppermost priority. That is why we pre-select our timber already in the forest. We process only stem wood of superior quality. In addition the timber is systematically examined again after the sawing and selected for the respective processing method. The right wood moisture for processing and impregnation is ensured.
The quality of our products is our uppermost priority. That is why we pre-select our timber already in the forest. We process only stem wood of superior quality. In addition the timber is systematically examined again after the sawing and selected for the respective processing method. The right wood moisture for processing and impregnation is ensured. In spite of this, cracks due to dryness and minor twists can occur. These are, just like resin discharges (resin channels) and colour differences natural distinctive features of the wood and must be accepted. The same applies to the natural “greying” of the timber due to the ultra violet radiation of the sun. Because of the “swelling and shrinking” of the wood, timber joints can loosen. Therefore the wood must be regularly painted with oil, varnish or paint and the screws be tightened as a part of normal wood maintenance.
The green colour on the surface of pressure impregnated items can vary due to different photochemical processes. As it is dependent on the light intensity, we have no influence on it and it cannot be subject to complaints. The differences disappear during the following colour treatment.

Special characteristics of our products

All products are manufactured from FSC-certified timber (see FSC symbol). This means that we use only timber from forests under sustained yield forest management.
Furthermore, we use only impregnation agents approved by the EU building supervisory institutions. We normally impregnate with a chrome-containing agent, but we also have the possibility of chrome-free impregnation if required.
All timbers are sanded again after the normal planing and the edges are rounded, unlike the products of other manufacturers. Thus our products obtain a much smoother surface, which not only looks and feels better, but off which the rain runs more easily and which therefore increases the life-span of the products. Parts that are subject to particular strain, such as door and gate frames are manufactured from glued laminated timber. Bending is thereby reduced to a minimum. For the joints we use exclusively screws and nails of stainless steel.
All corner joints are conventionally tenoned and broad frame parts additionally screwed and the screws covered.
Our products are manufactured exclusively by professionally qualified employees and according to traditional production methods. This enables us to respond to the wishes of our customers and to manufacture according to drawings and special measurements submitted by the customers.
And last but not least we would like to point out, that our products correspond to the measurements given in the catalogue, whereas for example the privacy fences of other manufacturers have the same measurement data but are in fact 1 – 2 cm smaller.
